  • Make sure your child understands your expectations before you get angry. 
  • Be Calm and then take action.  Deep Breathes can help center and calm a person down.
  • Take a break.  If there is not an emergency step away from the situation. 
  • Listen to your anger, rather than acting on it.
  • Be careful what you say because words can hurt.
  • It is okay to WAIT before disciplining.
  • Avoid physical force-this is usually a result of uncontrolled anger.
  • Avoid threats you cannot back up.
  • Tone, word choice and nonverbal communication all matter.  Be conscious of the message you are sending.
  • Learn to let things go.
  • Be aware of your triggers and know ways to help calm yourself.
  • Choose your battles.
  • Taking responsibility for your own emotions will help you be able to work with child’s emotions.
  • If you have struggles with anger seek help.
